“The Furry Thing” is the art project of Kuala Lumpur-based illustrator, sculptor and designer Kamwei Fong

Using only micro-pigment black ink and dense patterns of small, short strokes, Fong has created hundreds of dreamlike and imaginative illustrations of cats of all kinds and sizes. Despite the uniform style, almost mathematical in its planning and execution, each cat in "The Furry Thing" displays a unique personality: there are shaggy, pot-bellied, and awkward cats; there are sinuous, elegant, and proud cats; others still have curious, wary, or sycophantic eyes. Some have enormous tails pointing to the sky; others are curled up in a circle so perfect they are magnetic. Then there are those with flat faces or striped fur, electric tails or asymmetrical ears, sleepy looks or sinuous movements.

Kamwei Fong is a Malaysian artist whose series The Furry Thing first began in 2009 and has earned international acclaim, with exhibitions at Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris, Art Expo Malaysia, and solo shows in Malaysia, France, Taiwan, South Korea, U.S., and Japan.
