National Gallery Prague

A Dream Within a Dream: Edgar Allan Poe and Art in the Czech Lands, edited by Veronika Hulíková and Otto M. Urban / ISBN 9788070357590 / A really nice paperback with flaps, 224 pages plus an inserted 16-page comic / in English though made in the Czech Republic

This publication examines the reception of the work of the American writer Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) in the visual arts in the Czech lands, and the more general phenomenon of horror and fear. To this day, Poe enjoys great attention, and his short stories and poems inspire not only writers but also artists, film makers, and musicians. The project introduces a broad gamut of artists from František Kupka and Josef Váchal to Alén Diviš and, most recently, Krištof Kintera and Martin Zet.
